The opening weekend of
the 2007 Kentucky Youth Soccer State Open was held in Lexington, Kentucky at
the Masterson Station Soccer Complex on May 27-28. The 2007 State Open
brought together a state record 168 teams from all corners of the
Commonwealth.
I would like to take a quick moment to thank Mary Lynn Walsh, Mark Berginski, Lexington FC and all of their volunteers for all of their hard work making the State Open Cup such a success. While the weather was hot and dry for most of the weekend, the level of soccer couldn’t have been any higher. The 2007 Kentucky Youth Soccer State Open Championship Weekend was held in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Lovers Lane Soccer Complex on June 2-3. The Championship Weekend brought together the semi-finalist of the State Open Cup and U-11 and U12 teams from the Eurosport Cup. I would like to take a quick moment to thank Steve Henson, Southern Kentucky Soccer and all of their volunteers for all of their hard work making the Championship Weekend such a success. While we dodged some spotty weather on Saturday, the weekend went on as planned, and Bowling Green really rolled out the red carpet to every team. Overall, the play was outstanding with several matches coming down to the final minutes, and several even being decided by penalty kicks. I would also like to thank Tony Sammons and all of the referees for the time and effort. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year at the State Open Cup and Eurosport Cup in 2008. Good luck to those teams advancing to the Regional II Championship in Des Moines, Iowa Dave McIver Program Manager |
