Kentucky Awards for 2000

The Kentucky Youth Soccer Association Awards recognize outstanding achievements by Coaches, Players, Referees and Administrators in advancing youth soccer in the state.

Volunteer of the Year

Randy  Richey   Southern Kentucky Soccer

For at least the past five and a half years Randy Richey has been a very busy man. In addition to raising a family, he has held the following positions for Southern Kentucky Soccer: director of equipment, division coordinator, bingo coordinator, registrar, recreational president, board vice chairman, and finally, as chairman of SOKY for the past two years. 

Overseeing the state's most beautiful youth soccer complex and one of its larger youth programs is a tough and serious job but Ritchey is known for his eager willingingness to do anything that needs to be done. 

According to letters nominating him for this award, Ritchey is

•  "the guy you always see at the fields. 

• He has the patient wife, who puts up with his being gone all of the time, and a lot of the time is right there with him. 

• He is the guy whose 9-year old daughter was selling concessions at the end of the sidewalk during the season. '

• He is the guy who meets most of the shipments of equipment, food, and supplies to the complex.

• He is the guy who gets calls at all hours of the day about soccer. 

• He is the guy who started reaching out to the surrounding communities to help them get started in soccer. 

• He is the guy who attends most of the meetings, helps stock the Coke machine and does about anything that needs to be done. 

• He is the guy who also coaches teams, comes to tryouts, comes to TOPSoccer. 

 Why is he doing this? You do not see his name pasted everywhere. He does not get paid. He is doing all of this for kids in the Southern Kentucky Soccer Community.

He is what we all should try to be." Nothing more needs to be said. 

Fans watch a exciting game on the fields fo the Lover's Lane Complex that Randy helped build and works tirelessly to maintain.

Volunteer of the Year

The volunteer award is available to anyone serving in a non-paid capacity for any member league of Kentucky Youth Soccer.  The award is designed to recognize and reward those tireless people who volunteer their time to make youth soccer happen in Kentucky.
